Pyynikintie 2 valmistui alun perin vuonna 1916 (arkkitehti: Richard Björnberg) ja sitä laajennettiin vuonna 1934 (arkkitehti: Hjalmar Åberg). Tampereella rakennus tunnetaan usein nimellä "Vanha Teku", koska rakennus toimi laajennuksen jälkeen Tampereen teknillisenä oppilaitoksena.

Rakennus on luokiteltu kansallisesti merkittäväksi rakennetuksi kulttuuriympäristöksi. Sisällissodan aikana vuonna 1918 historiallisessa rakennuksessa sijaitsi muun muassa Tampereen punakaartin päämaja. Ennen peruskorjauksen aloittamista alkuperäisiä rakennusosia tai tilajakoja ei juurikaan ollut säilynyt rakennuksessa. Siitä huolimatta rakennuksen sisätilat on pyritty tekemään alkuperäistä arkkitehtuuria kunnioittaen.

Viisikerroksisen rakennuksen kahden ensimmäisen kerroksen tilat toimivat peruskoulun väistötiloina, ja 2.-5. kerros ovat musiikkipainotteisen Pyynikin lukion käytössä. Lukion musiikkipainotteisuuden vuoksi rakennukseen tehtiin harjoitus-ja esiintymistiloja vaativalle musiikinopiskelulle.

The historic Pyynikintie 2 (No.2 Pyynnikki Road) building was originally completed in 1916 (architect: Richard Björnberg) and was extended in 1934 (architect: Hjalmar Åberg). In Tampere, the building is often known as "Vanha Teku" (The Old Tech) because after the extension, the building served as the Tampere Technical Institute.

The building is classified as a nationally significant built cultural environment. During the Civil War in 1918, the building housed, among other things, the headquarters of the Tampere Red Guard. Before the renovation began, hardly any of the original building parts or room divisions had survived in the building. Nevertheless, the interior of the building has been designed with respect for the original architecture.

The first two floors of the five-story building have served as temporary school rooms, and the 2nd to 5th floors are used by the music-focused Pyynikki Upper Secondary School. Due to the music-focused nature of the upper secondary school, the building was converted into practice and performance spaces for demanding music studies.
